B.Sc Medical Lab Technology
The course aims to provide the candidate with adequate knowledge and skills to carry out routine laboratory diagnostic procedures and some sophisticated laboratory diagnostic procedures. Before a doctor can properly detect and treat a disease, he/she needs accurate information about the patient’s condition. The role of a Medical Laboratory Technologist is to provide this information through the application of Clinical Laboratory Science.
In an age where man is constantly susceptible to more and more diseases, as a consequence of unhealthy lifestyle, pollution and over population, the Medical Laboratory Technologist is often the first-line medical professional in the battle for better health. Medical Laboratory Technology (also known as Clinical Laboratory Science) is an allied health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease through the use clinical laboratory tests.
Five major areas of a clinical laboratory:
Clinical Chemistry (chemical analysis of body fluids)
Hematology (study of immune system)
Immunology (study of bacteria and other disease organisms)
Microbiology (study of bacteria and other disease organisms)
